Only recently, we witnessed a phase of beard obsession in men where every second guy you'd spot would have a face with just his eyes visible. Because the rest of it is literally covered with hair.

To some women, this macho aspect of men's personalities seemed more attractive, to some it seemed gross, and to some it was simply a great way of remembering forests in this time and age of deforestation and urbanization (just kidding).

However, just when this era of bearded men was nearing its end and everyone was thinking that the clean-shaven-chocolate-boy-loving women were finally going to have their moment, a breakthrough study has revealed something which might make beard-lovers jump with joy.

According to a study conducted at The University of Queensland, beard can't just make men look more appealing, it can also protect them away from some hazardous diseases like skin cancer.

The study that compared the effect of the sun in fully-bearded, partially-bearded, and bare-faced mannequins by measuring the radiation levels in each case, found that beard acts as a protective layer and hence saves men from a lot of skin-related issues in life.

"People with a thick head of hair do not tend to get skin cancer or photo ageing on the scalp until they lose their hair. So we can see that there is a UV protective effect," explained Dr Adam Freidmann.

In fact, men's beards is also the secret to a great skin. "While beards will never be as sun-safe as sunscreen, they certainly are a factor in blocking UV rays," lead author Professor Parisi explained in the study.

And need we mention how protection from the sun also means fewer wrinkles, lesser skin damage, and younger-looking skin?

How lucky are men? Damn!
